1. Need a hangover remedy?

In case you happened to get too far with the wine last night and you have a terrible headache, you can try treating it with beetroot. It turns out that betacyanin, the pigment that gives the veggie’s specific color, is an antioxidant, which may help you soothe hangover. The food colorant is said to increase your liver’s detoxification and make your body throw the alcohol away.

2. It has to do with sugar.

Of course it does! Back in 19^th century people started using beetroot as an essential source of sugar. There is not a term ‘beet sugar’ for no reason, after all. In fact, sugar beets are known to be quite common when it comes to white sugar production. So, this is how its popularity eventually started growing and there appeared the first sugar fabrics in the world.

3. Is it an aphrodisiac?

Actually, one of the oldest popular benefits of beetroot was namely its ability to act as an aphrodisiac. Except for betacyanin, the veggie also contains boron, an element that’s closely related to the production of human sex hormones. Well, there’s probably a good reason why The Lupanar, the most famous brothel in Pompeii, still has walls covered with beetroot pictures.

4. What about human pH?

If, for any reason, you need to do a test for acidity or alkalinity, you don’t even need to go to the pharmacy and spend money. All you need for a litmus test is probably hiding within your fridge. In case you have some beetroot at home, you may extract its juices and get down to work. When combined with acid solution, the juice is purple/pink.
